Federico Hernández, 49, opened FH Legal TMT at the beginning of July. He is currently the sole partner.
Hernández has spent more than 25 years advising companies in the telecoms sector. He first joined Barrera, Siqueiros y Torres Landa, SC – which merged with Hogan Lovells in 2014 – over 20 years ago, before his promotion to partner in 2009. Hernández oversaw the TMT practice at the firm, which he left in May.
The TMT specialist has launched his rm just a couple of months before the International Bar Association descends on Mexico City for its annual conference. Hernández says he is looking forward to the IBA event, where he hopes to “reconnect with old friends and make new ones to broaden his practice and leverage opportunities around the world.” FH Legal has opened its doors at a critical time for Mexico, launching just months after the election of country’s new president, Claudia Sheinbaum. “Mexico will face significant legal and institutional changes in the coming months and years under Sheinbaum’s administration,” says Hernández.
The founding partner says the rm is preparing to help clients navigate new laws and regulations, particularly in the telecoms sector, “where it appears the autonomous regulator may unfortunately be dissolved.” "Although launching a new rm is challenging, I have learned a great deal about managing a rm and had the opportunity to meet with friends who have been instrumental in helping me structure it,” concludes Fernández.
Hogan Lovells comes Highly Recommended for both its Mexican and regional offerings. In Mexico, its strong transactional practice areas mean that the rm has been busy advising on big-ticket deals recently. In July, it helped local accountancy Matas Lorenzo in its sale to TMF. Latin Lawyer contacted Hogan Lovells for comment, but did not hear back before publishing.
